I had the name of this bird filed away somewhere, but like a good college student, I lost it. In the immortal words of one of my professors this last semester, "You lose everything".

Thanks goes to WillemSvdMerwe for the identification. This is a pintailed whydah (Vidua macroura) and they occur in Namibia and most of sub-Saharan Africa.
